Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Meet Dexter! This handsome 2-year-old Doberman is full of personality and love. With his sleek black coat, natural ears, and a long docked tail, he’s bound to catch your eye. Dexter weighs in at 49 lbs and is on the smaller side, making him a great fit for many homes.

Dexter is a happy, energetic boy who loves attention! He’s still learning some basic obedience, so he might jump up in excitement, but with some training, he’ll quickly settle in as the perfect companion. He’s housebroken, crate-trained, and generally calm when left alone in his kennel—unless someone starts singing off-key! Then, you can count on Dexter to join in with a howl, especially when REO Speedwagon’s Take It On The Run comes on (a song that has a special place in his heart).

While Dexter hasn’t yet spent time with other dogs, he’s been respectful and has done well ignoring them in the kennel. He’s ready to find his forever home and is eager to become a loyal and loving addition to your family.
