Feature Dog

Feature Dog: Dax
last modified on August 28, 2010
Dax Dax is a young male, at 13 months old, that hasn't had much attention. He has very few manners but is more than eager to please. Right now he is suffering from Demodectic mange,(the type of mange that is not contagious and is indicative of a poor/immature immune system) which was diagnosed about 6 months ago and was not treated properly. That compounded with him living outside he got worse. So now we have him on an immune boosting supplement, ivermectin and we are dipping him. He would be ready for adoption in a few months. He will need a home that is dedicated to helping him learn manners and some obedience training. In his perfect home, he would have a secure fence, as he has lots of energy, and would the only pet. For additional information, please contact his foster Mom, Rdobe1@aol.com, AFTER completing an adoption application.
If you would like to donate to his treatment click on the link below.

Feature Dog: Boozer-Help with surgery!
last modified on September 1, 2010
Boozer-Help with surgery! One of the kennels we work with came upon a little stray Bichon. She reported the dog as found to all the animal controls, vets etc. Luckily the dog was microchipped, or so we thought, but we called every possible number listed for the owner and nobody ever came forward to claim him. We did find out his name is Boozer and he is is 4 years old. The vet said he was well taken care of too. Oh well, he will have no problem finding a new home. It will have to wait a bit as one day she went to get him out of the kennel and he was not using his leg, took him to the vet and found out he had a broken kneecap that had to be fixed. He just had the $900 surgery so he will need to heal. He is a sweet little guy that will up for adoption soon. Call Tracy at 847-336-3343 If you would like to make a donation toward his surgery click on his button below. Thanks!
We have received $486 dollars toward his surgery.

Special Needs

Sadie
last modified on August 22, 2010
Sadie Sometimes in IDR we come across a dog that just seems to be the living definition of rescue. One of our seniors, eight-year-old Sadie, is such a dog. She could hardly walk when coming into our rescue. We feel it is a combination of the old injury of a broken leg, hip dysplasia on one side and possibly some cervical issues. Though the owner did get her broken leg fixed, the reason for the break is shocking. His neighbor hit her with a large chain when he was mad that she came onto his property wanting to play with his dog. We have added in some supplements which really seemed to have helped her. Despite all this she is a very sweet, gentle girl who seems quite happy laying on a dog bed chewing on a bone. And now a few words from Sadie in her new foster home:
"I am a sophisticated, older lady but don't let my age fool you. I am playful and spunky, an avid collector of stuffies always making sure I have one close by. I won't mention my passion for pulling out all the stuffing. I am a loyal, velcro dog who loves my people. I love my Greyhound foster siblings and I am patient with the loud, obnoxious cat. I am smart, sitting and shaking on command. I am beautiful but camera shy. I am definitely a foodie. I have a special gallop I reserve for the race to the food bowl and I will not go to bed without my night night biscuit. As an added bonus, I don't have any bad habits, unless you count snoring. Please email my3hounds@wi.rr.com, it will be love at first sight - just ask my foster ladies."

Bumbles
last modified on August 24, 2010
Bumbles Bumbles is a 8 month old red boy who is one happy, go lucky guy! He is patiently waiting for his forever home. Bumbles has an unknown neurological disorder that affects his mobility and balance. Don't be fooled though because this boy is extremely active! He loves to run, play chase and wrestle with his foster brother. He simply looks a bit clumsy which makes him even cuter to watch! Bumbles has a very sweet personality and is more on the submissive side with other dogs. He absolutely loves everyone! Bumbles really needs to go to a home with another dog friend. They just need to be tolerant of very exuberant puppy play! He burns off most of his energy playing with his buddies in the backyard. There are a couple requirements that Bumbles must have. He must have a fenced yard to keep him safe. He also needs a home with very few stairs. He can manage a couple stairs going outside but can not do any more than that. Children are fine with Bumbles as he loves everyone but because of his clumsiness, older children 8 and up are best. He currently lives with 2 children ages 9 and 12. If interested in adopting Bumbles, please contact Darren at darrenf@classic-color.com

Victoria Victoria is a sweet, gentle but playful 5 year old that was found as a stray in someone’s backyard. Nobody claimed her so he turned her into the local shelter. This girl's tail wags a mile a minute, it is absolutely adorable. She picks up a toy to greet you with the butt going wild. She is good with other dogs when loose, but needs a slow introduction. When she walks she swings one of her front legs around and we thought it was a shoulder injury but the vet said it is front affected Wobblers. It does not seem to affect her as she runs around playing but she cannot do more then 2 steps so needs a ranch style home. For more information email Janice at jmk0825@att.net

Ruby Red
last modified on August 26, 2010
Ruby Red Ruby was confiscated with many other dogs from a hoarding situation. She is thought to be about 9 years old and a very sweet girl. She loves everyone she meets and will snuggle all day. She LOVES food and does a happy dance at meal time. Ruby is a low energy Doberman and coming from a hoarder, she is so excited to have her own soft dog bed to relax on. She spends most of the day there watching everything that goes on between naps. Ruby was recently diagnosed with degenerative spinal disease. There is no cure but she has started chiropratic treatment and is turning into a new dog. She used to have bad days with intense pain but she hasn't had one since she began treatment. Her only downfall due to the spinal issues is that she cannot hold her urine for a full work day but can go many hours with no problem. She would do best with someone gone 6 hours or less so there are no accidents. If you would like to give this girl a real loving home and her chance to "just be a dog", please contact Joanne at dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net or 309-732-1468 (e-mail responds quicker).

Flyer

Flyer Flyer is approximately 7 yrs old and was brought in as a stray. He is a bit unsteady on his feet and will stumble when he gets all excited and runs. If ever there was a happy boy, Flyer is it! He literally runs around the house smiling. He wants to be where all the action is whether it’s with the dogs or people. He insists on going out to play whenever any of his foster siblings go out. He LOVES tennis balls! He tends to be barky but that’s only because he is so excited to be with the family. He is very good in his crate but if you are home he wants to be with you. Flyer is very good in the house and likes to cuddle on the couch with his people. Does anyone out there want to open their heart to this very special boy? He is the very definition of a goof and you can’t help but smile when he looks at you. He is very good with dogs. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Ellie Ellie's nickname is SuperGirl because when she wants some attention she flies through the air and tries to jump in your lap. She loves to be kissed, hugged, and muttsaged. She snorts and giggles with delight. Too cute! She gets along with everyone, cats, and dogs,(large and small). She listens very well and is always trying to please you. Ellie loves her crate but does not need it as she is housebroken and not destructive.
Her little nub wags constantly, that is how she keeps her girlish figure, exercise! Definitely a "Red Hat Lady" at the age of 13 that has a lot of love left to give to someone who needs it. Believe me when you meet this girl you will have no idea she is older. Email Suzanne at chigirl0023@aol.com

Holly Looking for a fun summer girl to hang out with in the yard? Holly loves being outside in the nice weather and her foster mom just discovered how much Holly loves the hose. She will bite at the water until she is soaking wet. She is very sweet girl who just likes to hang out with her people. Though her foster mom has no difficulties with her behavior she is that typical smart dobergirl that will test you. So she needs an experienced owner. She is good with other dogs but like many females she will grump if they invade her space while she is lounging. In her foster home she loves to play with the other dogs and will wrestle with anyone willing. She is housebroken, crate trained and knows all her basic commands. She is fine with cats. Max Warren
last modified on June 17, 2010
Max Warren Max Warren was surrendered due to lack of time. They also noted he was having accidents in the home and his crate but added that was likely because they didn't take him out often enough. He would fit best into a more quiet household where someone is home to let him out or can stop by at lunch during a regular work day to let him out. He is a very loving, well-behaved, gentleman who does well with kids and other similar sized dogs. He is very, very curious about cats though, so no cats for him. However, he does not seem to mind chickens or donkeys! He also does not seem to appreciate motorcycles and mopeds. He is uneasy about going in a crate but will ultimately go in when asked. He is crated during the work day in his current foster home. He has not tried to get up on furniture, with the exception of the bed (but even then, only when he isn't being watched). He lived with kids in his past and is getting along just fine with the kids in his new foster home. He is doing well with the other dogs as well but does not really seek out play with them. Max Warren enjoys going for walks and typically walks nicely on leash. He is a distinguished 9 year old who is very happy to be back with a family who gives him attention and time (versus in a shelter environment) and would love to find his new forever family to live out his golden years with. Feel free to contact tsfmcky@yahoo.com if you are interested in providing Max Warren with his forever home.

Justice
last modified on August 31, 2010
Justice We received this email about two 8 year olds needing rescue. The owner kept them in a pen outside their entire lives. Then when they had to move called rescue to take them. Apparently we did not work fast enough so they just moved and left them all alone in their pen. You can see the picture of them in their kennel before we took them. They must both be so appreciative of a soft bed, air conditioning and good care because neither of them have ever done anything wrong in the house. Justice is just a doll. She is a tad shy when first meeting her, but warms up quickly as she loves to be pet. Justice is housebroken and has never chewed anything not meant for her. She is not crated here, does not get into the trash, she does like to "sniff" the table and counter but has never offered to do anything more. She gets along wonderfully with her foster siblings (2 dobes & a mix). Justice loves to run around the yard and play and would instigate play with her brother Kemo. Justice cannot live with cats. Justice is a quiet dog, I've heard her bark once (at the barn cats) and that is it. Her favorite thing is standing next to her people to be pet, or lying on her bed with a bone to chew on. She enjoys going walks and is very well mannered on a leash. If you are looking for a devoted companion, Justice is a perfect match if interested in her please Email Denise at rose6horse@yahoo.com

Lightning
last modified on August 26, 2010
Lightning If you are frightened by stormy weather meeting Lightning will give you a whole new outlook. He is a bright boy and I am sure in his younger days he moved like lightning. Now, he is a little slower but just as curious about everything. If your lights go out during a storm he will be right by your side doing his biggest doberlean and having his head in your lap. Petting his head over and over your thoughts about the scary storm will be swept out of your mind and you will only be thinking of how lucky you are to have such a loving dog. Lightning came to us in 2007 at the estimated age of 9 years old. He was adopted and for all we knew all was fine. Then out of the blue we get an call from a man who found an IDR dog. We were able to track down who it was due to his microchip and of course took him right back. We called all the phone numbers listed on the adopter's app, his vet etc. but never could we track down his owner. So sad that this old boy was running loose and we are very thankful the good samaritan picked him up. So now he is about 12 years old now and looking again for a home. Of course he is older now and has bumps and lumps, it looks like he is getting cataracts, and possibly the onset of Wobbler's disease. Despite these characteristics he is still a very handsome and dignified dog. It would be best for him to live in a ranch house or one where he only has a couple of steps. He gets along with all of my dogs and has no aggressive issues at all. He is housebroken. I do not have him in a crate but he does sleep on a kuranda bed with a soft dog bed on it, he does not even try to get on the furniture. What he wants more than anything, except to eat, is to have a person that will pet him, walk with him, and love him. Will you open your home to a loving senior? Please contact leninger1604@comcast.net for more information.
The photos posted are from 2007 but he is such a pretty boy.

Bart
last modified on June 30, 2010
Bart As the young Bart Simpson says 'I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, there's no way you can prove anything!' Our Bart agrees, he's quite the young, mischievous doberteen. Bart's a little over a year old and still growing into his legs (as you can see from the pictures!!). He would love a home where he can get lots of exercise and would love another canine companion to romp with. Bart does need a slower introduction to other dogs but once he is comfortable he absolutely LOVES to play and can be a little pesty in his eagerness. He currently lives with 4 other dogs and get along great with all of them. Bart is crate trained and has wonderful house manners - he's potty trained and does not counter surf or get into the trash. He does have a few bad habits (who doesn't??) that can easily be corrected with obedience (and we are working on these) - jumping on people to say hi, getting mouthy when extremely excited, and barking at other dogs and people when out on a walk (or from the windows at home). In other words, he's a pretty typical 1 year old doberboy. Bart does require obedience classes and would blossom with a positive reinforcement training regimen (he is a little on the sensitive side!). He's got quite a fun-loving attitude and is up for anything. He can't promise to always be a good boy (what fun would that be??), but he can promise to put a smile on your face every day. Bart will only be adopted to a family with all adults and/or children over 10/12 yrs. Please email Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com if you are interested in Bart.

DoberDuds: Bart's DoberDuds come from Doreen Jeurink who wants this energetic Dober boy to be decked out for Christmas like the halls with boughs of holly.

last modified on August 28, 2010
Lance Lance was surrendered to a KY shelter by his very elderly owner, who was no longer able to care for him. About 6 yrs old, he had been well cared for and loved. One of the worst fears of most pet lovers is that, for one reason or another, we are no longer able to care for our beloved pets. Thankfully, IDR+ was there to commit to helping Lance find another wonderful home. A very happy, well behaved boy, he is a constant butt wiggler, who loves nothing more than to look at you longingly as you talk to him. Although still very active, a more calm home would probably work best for him since that is what he is most used to. Lance does not get along with other male dogs or cats. He loves to play with Raven who is also up for adoption. Email Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Baron
last modified on July 30, 2010
Baron Baron came back to us about 5-10 lbs overweight but has now slimmed back down to a nice size. Baron LOVES to go walks/run/bike rides and behaves great on leash. He is very active and will need plenty of daily exercise to maintain his newly acquired waist line. Baron is housebroken and crate trained and has out grown all those pesky younger dog antics (he is about 3 years old). He absolutely adores being touched and will sit next to you for hours if you keep petting him. Baron has been through obedience classes with his foster mom and knows sit, down, stay, leave it, heel, and shake. However, he really needs to work on his recall as he has a tendency to blow you off if he is out in the yard. He gets along great with other dogs, however he can be quite overbearing to some and would live best with a canine companion of the opposite sex. Baron does have a moderate prey drive but quickly calms down if you tell him to leave it if on a walk or leashed. Baron cannot live with cats or other animal varieties of smaller stature. He also will not be placed in a home with small children. Baron is very enthusiastic in everything he does and always gives 110%, he's got quite the go-getter attitude. When he's super happy or apologizing he even cracks a smile! If you are interested in learning more about Baron please email Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com after filling out an application.

Kalib
last modified on August 28, 2010
Kalib Kalib is 4 years old and canme to us when his owner died. Kalib was adopted but unfortunately had to be returned as he cannot live with cats. The temporary home said he was very good in the house. The only real issue was he wasn't completely housebroken but was learning quickly. He is very eager to please and easy to train. He knows sit, down, stay, come, play dead, shake and other paw. Her boyfriend also taught him the word 'velcro' and when he hears it he comes running up and leans against you, its really cute. He's one of the easiest dogs I've ever walked, though he does still need some leash work. He does fine in the car, but he doesn't care for it and will whine the entire time until he falls asleep. He's just such a funny, goofy, sweet, calm dog. Unfortunately her cat is very skittish and tends to run away, which I think provoked Kalib's prey drive and he never saw the cat as anything other than something to chase. Kalib is certainly good with other dogs and people of all ages, he sat quietly while a neighbor girl, about 4 years old, petted and kissed on him. He had no real interest in toys, but loves treats and will do anything for a hot dog. Kalib really is a sweetheart. Email Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

He was happy to show off his "give paw" right away in his new foster home. He also rides well in the car. He is great with children even little ones. Trevor gets along well with other dogs but chases cats. He is doing well in his new foster home, where he lives w/several large dogs of all ages, as well as a toy dog (so he is fine with small dogs). Dillon

Dillon Dillon was taken in by a family in March while his owner was being treated for cancer. Their daughter is a home health aide and she felt bad for Dillon because he was left alone for long periods of time while his owner was in the hospital. They fostered him and expected his owner to make a full recovery. Unfortunately Dillon’s owner passed away in May. His owner did not have any family to help with him so this family has been trying very hard to find a good home for Dillon without success. He is a very good dog and he did well with them for the most part but they did not want to own him. He did not get along well with their 8 year old female Lab but did well with their 4 year old female Lab. Dillon was raised in a home where he was the only dog and that is probably where he would do best. He is well-trained and obedient. Dillon has not been exposed to small children and will not be placed with children. He needs a more experienced owner as he has tested his boundaries before, he has growled when asked to get off the couch but he will do it. You can take toys and food from him no problem. He has played with children as some friend's kids came over and they sprayed him with the hose and he loved it. He did not live with cats, but he went to the family's mother’s house and she has a cat and he did not pay any attention to it at all. He is a very sweet boy but will need a more experienced home that has no other dogs or maybe one female. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Siren Octavius (now knows his name as Siren) was originally picked up as a stray. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't come looking for this boy. He's not only handsome and sweet but he also loves to snuggle. He knows sit and down very well and is learning how to stay. He gets along well with the other 6 dogs of all sizes in his current foster home. He gets along so well with other dogs that he can easily clear a 4 foot fence to go and play with them so a 6 foot fence is definitely recommended for this agile boy. He's not too sure about the cats but is definitely curious and tries to check them out through the baby gate. He is completely crate trained and will go in when asked. He is also housebroken, has never had an accident in the house and can go a full work day just fine. He is in love with stuffed toys, doesn't tear them up and will carry them around in his mouth. Siren is a wonderful dog who is looking for a new home to call his very own. Bugatti

Bugatti My name use to be A131207. I was dropped off in the “night deposit box” at animal control. I was skinny, I was thirsty and I was depressed. The shelter took good care of me and gave me medical attention and shelter until I was picked up by an IDR+ volunteer. I am now in a foster home and my name has been changed to Bugatti (boo-GA-ti) after a really cool sports car! I am happy and well behaved. I have a place to rest and I get fed all the time and played with and I am showing my foster family all the things that I know! I know sit, stay, down, shake and I can play fetch and tug! I do not like to sit on the furniture, I am comfortable as can be on the floor, rug or in my dog bed on the floor. I like to chase squirrels, bunnies, cats and any other small furry thing outdoors. There is a cat in the house that I am living in but as long as it does not come in my room, I am OK with it being there. I respect the baby gate but will open it myself if it is not properly secured! Yep, I am very smart! I LOVE people, children, other dogs and I want to play! Because I am a big dog, I do have the potential to knock smaller dogs or children around while playing so I should not be allowed to be too crazy around them! I would love to be adopted by a family with a large fenced yard so that I can run and play at liberty. I am beautiful when I lope around! I would love to go to obedience school if nothing else just for a refresher course and if you are interested in agility or lure coursing (especially lure coursing), so am I! Of course, a good lively walk is always fun too! They say I am approximately 4 years old and that I need to gain some weight and in a few months, I will be a very beautiful Doberman! I am very respectful in the home, completely housebroken and I don’t even bark when the doorbell rings. I am a lively very good boy and a joy to have in your heart! I could be a joy in your home as well, just fill out and submit an application today! Email Darla at dbirdranch@yahoo.com

He is a very sweet, energetic and friendly boy that loves everyone and gets along great with other dogs, in fact, he would do well with a sibling to burn off energy. He is crate trained (although it takes some coaxing to get him in but he settles down quickly), knows his basic commands; sit, stay, come, down and heel but an obedience class would be great for bonding time with his new owner. Riley does like to chase the cats so it would probably be best that he is placed in a home without them. Riley would love nothing more than to finally find his forever home. He is a very handsome boy and sweet boy. He is friendly and playful with everyone he meets. He has obviously never lived in the house so will need to learn those skills but that is easy to teach by limited their space in the beginning and slowly working up to living in the whole house. Marciano gets along with female dogs but has never interacted with males. We did cat test him and he seemed fine with them but that is no guarantee. He loves playing fetch. We will add more information once he is in a foster home. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

China
last modified on June 7, 2010
China Are you looking for a sweet but very active redhead to add to your family? China needs to be an only dog so that she can just relax and enjoy her people. She is about 1 1/2 year old. She loves everybody and is happy to curl up on her bed with a chew toy. She is very attentive and will stare straight into your eyes for treats. She is crate trained and housebroken. She really tries to always be a good girl but other dogs are just too much for her with her becoming distracted and very high energy. So if you are looking for someone to give all your undivided attention, China may be your girl. China must have a fenced yard as she enjoys running more than any dog we have seen and does not do well in public settings with dogs. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Kiri
last modified on June 6, 2010
Kiri Kiri was picked up as a stray. She is about 5 years. When she first came in she wasn’t feeling good and was quite grumpy with her foster siblings. Once she started feeling better she has started taking all her toys out of the toy box to play with. She liked to spread them all around her room. However, now that she shares a room with one of her foster brothers she prefers to steal all the toys and put them in her crate. She doesn’t seem to mind her brother going in to get them. Out in the yard she loves to run, run, run. You know it’s time for her to come in when she is on the deck giving a few barks. She is fairly quiet in the house but will bark quite a bit when it is meal time. She is a bit shy with new people and would prefer a quieter home. She could share her home with a male dog but would probably prefer to be the only dog. She is housebroken and crates well. No cats for this girl. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Sophie
last modified on August 22, 2010
Sophie Sophie and another small dog were kept outside 24/7 and occasionally escaped from their pen. Sometimes animal control would pick them up and sometimes neighbors would take them back to their pen. This last time they escaped animal control picked up Sophie and the owner did not want to have to pay the fee to get her back. What a doll this girl is? She is about 4 years old and has been such an easy foster girl. She is good with the other dogs but definitely a dominant girl. Absolutely loves to run and play with the other Dobes. She has a bit of a goofy walk so we took her to the vet and he does suspect she has Dancing Dobermans Disease but there is no actual diagnosis for that. She runs and plays just fine (see photos) so don't let that stop you from adopting this girl. She is crate trained and housebroken. She can be a bit protective of the home and will let you know if someone is at your door. She loves to lie out in the sun and is a very quiet girl in the yard. Email Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Raven Raven was given up because her owner was "downsizing." She is a very happy and energetic girl. She is great with the other dogs at the kennel she is staying at. She does show a bit of issues on the leash with other dogs so might be best with a fenced yard for exercise. She barks at rapid movements so no small children. She knows her basic commands and listens well. She is 5 years old and a very pretty girl, despite her poor ear crop and taping job. After dinner she always picks up her food bowl and sleeps with it in her bed. We are thinking she is hoping the food fairy will fill it overnight. Lexie Lexie is an absolute doll. She is a very well behaved 2yr old that loves everyone and everything she has met. She has wonderful house manners, is housebroken and can manage an 8hr work day in her crate, which she enjoys laying in even with the door open. She loves other dogs, but can be a typical young dobe and is a little rough when playing. She is fine with cats too. She is overall a very easy, perfect little 55 pound girl. Lexie came to us with demodex mange which has pretty much all cleared up. Her coat is now shiny and looks great! She is now ready to find a perfect, forever home! Sasha
last modified on August 24, 2010
Sasha Sasha was surrendered along with Trevor because the family’s new baby was allergic to them. They got Sasha as a puppy and she looked like a purebred Dobe so they cropped her ears. As she grew her body stared looking more like a Lab or a Rott, but her face looks like a Dobe. She is on the shorter side, 5 years old and quite an easy girl. She fit right into her foster home. She is completely housebroken, does not need to be crated and is great with all the dogs she has met so far. We are told she chases cats. Sasha knows all her basic commands, rides nicely in the car and walks well on a leash. She even gives paw with both paws. Sasha is afraid of storms but as long as she can hide in the bathtub she is fine. She will also sit by the dryer and wait for the whites load to finish. Her previous owner used to ball up "spare" socks and she would carry them around. She won't eat them, she just carries them. If it comes undone she brings it to you, drops it at your feet and waits for you to ball it back up. She also always greets you with a toy in her mouth and a wiggly butt. She really is a cute girl. Satina Satina and her daughter, Lucy, are yet another example of dogs losing their home because of a new baby. In this case, it was a grandchild. And, there weren't even any problems between the dogs and the baby. The owner just thought there MIGHT be problems and dumped the dogs. Satina is about 3-4 yrs old and is very typical of a female Dobe, being a little bossy. As neither dog had been taught any manners, they both will require an obedience deposit to insure they will receive the training essential in making a wonderful family companion. Satina is crate trained, totally housebroken, and, although she has lived with other dogs, would do best as an only pet. Angel
last modified on September 1, 2010
Angel Poor Angel. She was surrendered to a shelter because her owners got too old to care for her properly, and no rescue would consider taking her as she has a bad leg. Most rescues cannot afford to take on a dog that might require surgery or extensive medical. Luckily for Angel, ILDR+ is able to help dogs other rescues won't consider. After having her to our vet, it appears that Angel broke her rear leg several years ago and it wasn't taken care of at that time. Consequently, she has learned to get around with a leg that healed improperly. Outside of a limp, sitting down more often to avoid standing on that leg, and carrying it when running-and she doesn't let it slow her down when chasing a squirrel, you really wouldn't know she had a problem. Being a blue, she also has some hair loss along her back. We are trying hard to help her regain her hair, but it's possible she might just have to wear a doggy coat when outside on cold days. Although she probably lived as an only dog, and would prefer being an only dog again, she is dealing with several other dogs in her foster home, although they aren't completely mingled yet. At 5 yrs old, she acts much younger, is very housebroken and loves to sleep in. She is also quite the character, smiling and clacking her teeth at you as she play bows. For more information contact her foster Mom, Rdobe1@aol.com, AFTER completing an adoption application. We will try to get some additional pictures soon.

Danny
last modified on September 2, 2010
Danny Everyone should be so lucky to have a dog like Danny in their lives. He is an albino Doberman with a soft cream coat and beautiful, bright blue eyes. He was born March 31st, 2010. Danny has been in a foster home since the beginning of August and is thriving. Danny knows sit, stay, down, come, leave it, drop it, and is doing pretty well with heeling on a leash. At night, Danny sleeps soundly in his crate. This young Doberman has not yet met an enemy and just adores everyone. He is fine living with other dogs as long as they are tolerant of his puppy antics. He does well in his crate for up to 6 hours at a time and is doing exceptional with housebreaking. Danny is going to need additional obedience school to have an opportunity to bond with his new family. Being albino his time in the sun should be limited and sunscreen should be used on his nose. If you have any questions about him please e-mail Emily at DharKen@ymail.com. You can fill out an application for him at www.ildoberescue.com.

Bella
last modified on February 22, 2010
Bella Bella is a sweet and adorable eleven-pound Brussels Griffon mix. She is two to three years old and seems to bond with one person at a time, but that bond is amazingly strong and she desperately wants to please. Bella was given up when the owner’s brother moved in and he did not like dogs, but it’s also pretty clear she doesn’t trust men either and is best suited in a home with no children. Bella is great with other dogs of all sizes and with cats but seeks out smaller dogs for playtime. Since arriving in her foster home, Bella has immediately made herself comfortable but took several days to warm to her foster mom. Once she felt safe, she became glued to my side. The men in the house took several months to be accepted, but she does tolerate them even within a few weeks and doesn’t want to upset them either. A man living in the home would need to be patient with this girl but she is well worth the effort and with patience she will come around. Men who come and go would probably never be fully trusted and she would simply keep her distance. Bella is fully housebroken, crate trained, relatively calm and quiet but thoroughly enjoys playing with other small dogs in the house. She is fine with dogs of all ages and sizes and is no pushover either holding her own when playing once she feels comfortable with the other dog. She loves to curl on the couch at night and absolutely thinks “her” human hung the moon. I have never seen a dog this utterly devoted. Bella is currently taking a basic obedience course and her next family would need to continue with formal obedience work as well. If there is a man in the home, it would be best if he could be the handler during the training as this seems to be building her confidence towards men. If you are interested in Bella, please complete an application which can be found under the Adoption Process section of our website. She is currently being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, she is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and her adoption fee is $225. Tracker
last modified on June 21, 2010
Tracker Tracker is an adorable wiggly boy who is around a year old and we believe is a chihuahua/dachshund mix weighing about twelve pounds. He generally gets along with everyone he meets and just wants to play. He has a quiet side and will snuggle on his foster mom’s lap for some ear rubs but once done he prefers his dog bed or gnawing on a Nylabone. He crates very well and seeks out time in his crate, rides easily in a car if crated, can go a full workday without going outside and enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes if allowed an introductory period of a week or two and is absolutely not one for dog parks. While he gets along well with people, he can be rough in play and because of this will be adopted to a home with adults only. Tracker loves to make the humans around him happy and recently passed his formal basic obedience course, so he heels beautifully, sits patiently and will also lie down. However his new family will need to work with him in a required obedience course as well so he learns to understand and trust his new humans. He is completely housebroken and even makes sure to let you know when he needs to be taken outside. Tracker is a fairly quiet boy and not a typical yappy little dog by any means. He doesn’t understand toys but does love a chew stick in the evenings and takes treats gently when offered. He is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations and routine tests. Tracker’s adoption fee is $225 and he is being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net

He gets along well with the other 7 dogs in the house even though he is the smallest. He will attempt to chase the cats if given the chance but does not try to hurt them. Jack has the energy level of a Pug and would be happy with walks or playing in the yard. Coco King
last modified on July 30, 2010
Coco King Coco was used as a breeding dog his whole life. As a senior (9 yrs old in May), the breeder did not need him anymore, so dropped him at the local shelter. He is your typical "breeder" dog meaning he had no socialization with humans and did not know how to enjoy people. Coco has never had any issues being picked up although he still doesn't really enjoy it (he gets stiff when picked up). He has brought much joy to his foster as he has made great strides since moving in, in May. He used to totally shut down when people would enter his world but he is getting better. He seems to want attention and to be a part of the family. He will occasionally get a "wild hair" and roll around on his dog bed or grab a stuffy or his sock toy and try to "get it". He also enjoys chewing on a bone with the one tooth he has left. He needs a home willing to accept him for who he is and not push him but rather help him to continue to blossom at his own pace. Any quick movements or raised voices will result in him running for any type of small/sheltered area he can find. He is enjoying the big fenced yard (even now to the point where he chases off squirrels and rabbits and will run around in an all out, full and beautiful sprint!) and comes back into the house, reliably, when following his canine foster siblings. Coco's ideal forever home would include a patient owner willing to give him a smaller area in the house and a smaller area outside initially, so you can catch him. In addition, it should be a quiet, fairly scheduled home, ideally, with a dog pal for Coco to find some additional confidence in. He is good with cats and has been living with a male Dobe, a female Blue Heeler/Aussie mix and a male Terrier mix. He truly seems to admire and love his older foster brother Doberman the best. As he grows in his confidence in you, you will be bound to have a new best bud! If you think you are the special person that can open your home and heart to him please email Tammy at tsfmcky@yahoo.com

Sheryl Crow
last modified on August 22, 2010
Sheryl Crow Looking for a little music in your life? Sheryl Crow is ready to provide it. All she wants to do is have some fun and lie around to soak up the sun. She is an adorable little Yorkie mix, that possibly has some Havanese in her. She was taken from a home in Kentucky where a 77 year old woman had many other dogs, so did not have a very happy beginning to her life. She is a little bit shy but warms up nicely. She loves to be picked up and is very gentle. She likes nothing better than to be near you wherever you go. She is very definitely a lap dog. As soon as you sit down, she is on your lap.

Sheryl lives with two Dobermans and a cat in her foster home. She is not the least bit intimidated by the Dobermans, and will actually get a little bossy with them. She’s not quite sure about the cat, so leaves him alone (of course the cat is bigger than she is). Sheryl had never walked on a leash until she came to her foster home, but is learning very quickly. She goes for walks every day and is doing a great job, she prances along with her tail high in the air, she looks so cute. Sheryl is about 4 years old and 11 pounds. She is crate trained and will definitely need a crate when she goes to her forever home;as she considers it her safe place. She appears to be housebroken, and is overall an easy girl. So, if you are looking for an adorable dog who will be your constant companion contact Linda at llleveille@yahoo.com.

Bubbles
last modified on August 17, 2010
Bubbles Bubbles appears to be a ShihTzu / Lhasa Apso mix, that was turned into a shelter by his owners because he did not get along with other dogs. His foster mom has found this to be partially correct. He is currently living with four large dog, and he mostly ignores them. The problems come up when he is protecting "his stuff", whether that be his foster parents or his toys and food. Then he becomes quite belligerent with the other dogs, eventhough they are much larger than he is. He does not get along with the resident cats either. For this reason he will only go to a home with no other pets. When it comes to humans, it is a completely different story. His foster parents can take anything away from him including toys, food and treats. He has a very happy personality, and is quite athletic. He will easily leap over a baby gate, and will almost do backflips to get your attention. He had some initial housebreaking issues, which could have been due to all the upheaval in his life, but he is now doing very well and goes through the night without a problem. Bubbles is crate trained, although he will scratch at the door to let you know that he is not happy to be in there. He walks well on the lead and really enjoys his twice daily walks. He is 2yrs. old and currently weighs 15lbs. although he could stand to gain some weight. If you are interested in this cute little guy, email Jane at wevmit@sbcglobal.net.

Low Rider Low Rider appears to be a German Shepherd in a Basset Hound sized body. At about a year old, he is a sweet young dog with old soulful eyes. He loves to fetch a tennis ball and will willingly bring it back and drop it at your feet. After a good game of fetch, Low Rider wants nothing more than to sit with his person for a head scratch. He would be okay in a home with a more submissive or very tolerant dog as he seems to be a bit of a control freak. He has just arrived into a foster home, so we will add more as we get to know him better and as he learns more manners. If you have any questions you can e-mail Emily at DharKen@ymail.com. You can fill out an adoption application for Low Rider at www.ildoberescue.com.

Jet
last modified on September 1, 2010
Jet Jet is a sweet little Poodle mix that was picked up as a stray. He had fleas and was very matted so still has a little baldness on his butt from the scratching. He has now been professionally groomed and is looking and feeling great. He is running around so happy now so it must have really hurt him. You can see in the photos how happy he is. He is a very sweet boy that just seems to love everyone. Email Kat at kattwoman5@yahoo.com

Menard
last modified on August 2, 2010
Menard Our very handsome Mendard was so named because he was found in front of a Menards hardware store! He was trying to go into the store and the workers were shooing this friendly kitty away. Since Menard's foster-mom-to-be just happened to be heading into the store to shop, imagine her surprise when he ran right into her arms! Thus, he is now named Menard. The vet has since given Menard a clean bill of health and aged him at about 9 months old. He is extremely clean and extremely healthy! In his foster home, Menard plays with toys, purrs up a storm, and knows how to use his kitty box! He has all his claws, but he is very gentle with them. Menard is an active kitten who loves a good ball of string! This cat will run right up to anyone looking for attention including big dogs. His adoption fee is $50, which includes all medical. He has had the following done: vet exam, negative FIV/FELV test, dewormed, vaccinated including Rabies, negative for ear mites and fleas, neutered and microchipped with free registration. Please email alisecarrico@yahoo.com for more information.

Mocha
last modified on August 1, 2010
Mocha Who doesn't love a good Mocha? They are rich, sweet and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. That describes this little girl to a T. She loves to snuggle, just adores sitting next to you for petting and will even try to climb into your lap to get as close as she can. She gets along very well with the 6 other dogs she lives with both big and small. She feels that cats are squeaky toys meant to be chased so she should not live in a home with cats. Mocha is around 11 months old but still has all her puppy energy. She does like to chew, but is not bad, so she just needs lots of appropriate toys to satisfy her cravings. She is totally housetrained and has never had an accident in her foster mom's house even after being crated for a full work day or left out loose. This girl is as well behaved as dogs come and would be a wonderful addition to any household although I don't recommend that she be placed in a home with children under 10. She is up to date on all vaccines and is spayed. She has also attended basic obedience classes and has become the model student. She knows sit, down, stay, come and heel. If you would like to wake up to your very own Mocha each morning, please contact dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net for more information.
T-Bone

T-Bone Want a perfect puppy? Then I am your boy! I am just about 7 months old and am crate trained, house broken, non destructive, and perfectly trained. I have graduated puppy kindergarten with flying colors and am in beginners obedience. If you say "go home" I happily go into my crate. I get along wonderfully with other dogs and love children, and listen when told to sit, down, or come. I am a laid back boy that loves to ride in the car and go for walks. although I can be energetic without daily exercise. I would love a home with a fenced yard and a female dog as a companion if there is another dog, and a family that is not gone a full work day. I am a great candidate to be a therapy dog as I am well behaved and learn quickly; with continued training I would be amazing. Both my brothers were adopted and I am hoping my forever home will come along soon. Be sure to see my video, so you can see I am as cute as can be! If you want to be my forever home, please fill out an application so you can be contacted to meet me. Email Sylvia at simmonsus@aol.com
Rudy
last modified on August 31, 2010
Rudy “Rudy” is a great little dog! Named for Notre Dame’s Rudy Rutiger for his size and tenacity, he was rescued by Evansville Animal Control as a stray. He is thought to be about 1 year old. Rudy is possibly an Australian Kelpie mix, according to several Kelpie breeders. This breed is known for having high energy levels and the need to have a job, and this describes Rudy perfectly. He is 32 pounds of PLAY. In his current foster home he lives with a Doberman, a Great Dane, and 4 cats. He loves everyone and his tail is always wagging. He would be too exuberant for an older dog or a dog that will not teach him manners. Our Great Dane is a female and told him right from the beginning to “behave” and he respects her. On the other hand, our male Doberman will not discipline him and as a consequence, Rudy play nips and jumps on the Doberman endlessly until the Dobe needs to be rescued. So Rudy would be great company for another rambunctious dog. He will not hurt any of our cats and only chases the ones who run away from him. As with the dogs, he respects the cats that stand their ground and leaves them alone. Rudy is currently enrolled in obedience and has learned “sit” and “down.” We still need to use either the Easy Walk harness or the prong collar to prevent him from pulling when we walk him, but we are working on it. We have been practicing with the neighborhood children to have Rudy either stand quietly or sit before anyone pays attention to him. Otherwise he will jump all over children and play nip, as this is his way of showing affection. He seems to love children the most as they are as active as he is. Rudy would do well in a home with a fenced-in yard so he can run. He loves his baby pool and chew toys. He is quiet and content in his crate with his rope chew and his kong, and this is where he spends most of his time when indoors, as he is so rambunctious. Once Rudy learns basic commands, the next class we were thinking of enrolling him in is agility. He shows no fear of tunnels, fences, or moving apparatuses and is able to leap several feet into the air. He once jumped over the Great Dane for no apparent reason other than the fun of it! There are some videos of him on YouTube if you would like to take a better look. The first one is of him playing in his pool. Rudy playing hin his poolThe second one is of Rudy learning to behave appropriately.

Shasta
last modified on August 1, 2010
Shasta Her name is Shasta, and she is a beautiful, smart, joyous, curious two year old Doberman. She was found as a stray by Animal Control. It is suspected that Shasta belonged to the ever growing number of dogs whose future begins and ends with today’s back yard breeders. Used exclusively to produce young, her life expectancy was already coming to a close after only two years. Were it not for some extraordinary circumstances, Shasta’s story would have ended like so many other mistreated dogs—in solitude, despair, and death. Fortunately, Shasta has been given a second chance at life. Shasta is a vibrant example of unspent energy. Freed from the bonds of parturition, all aspects of life are new and wondrous to her. In the short time with RPSM (Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan), she has shown remarkable development in her social skills and personality. She is crate trained, house broken, knows how to sit, and loves to lean against you when she get attention (common Doberman trait). In moments of excitement, she loves to show-off her adorable Doberman smile. She plays well with other dogs and acts very much like a puppy set free in a world of discovery. Do to the extreme isolation of her former life; anyone wishing to adopt Shasta will need to be sympathetic toward her few simple needs. An obedience deposit will be required in addition to the adoption fee; after completion of an obedience course the deposit will be refunded. Her adoption will require a fenced in yard, and because she is so energetic, with great enthusiasm for play, she requires children to older than ten. Though she can be a bit timid under unfamiliar circumstances, she is never aggressive. Shasta’s a quick learner and gives every indication that with a little obedience training, she will be an excellent companion for anyone. Give Shasta the future she deserves. She has spent all of her life thus far serving the avarice of dog peddlers. Open your heart and give her a new world where love and happiness are not illusory but reality. At only two years old, you can look forward to many rewarding moments with a beautiful, intelligent, and devoted companion. Show Shasta compassion and love by adopting her and giving her a home. Shasta is young, healthy, spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm free, and micro-chipped. Please contact Cathy her foster mom: dobiedeer@yahoo.com
Sadie

Sadie Sadie needs to find a new home. She is 10 years old, but has the energy and looks of a much younger dog. She's healthy and spayed. Sadie is fantastic with people and kids, yet leary around other dogs. Not aggressive, just defensive. Sadie would do well as an only dog with a yard to run around in. Her owner, Gary, can be reached at gkrejca@gmail.com
Gigi and Gremlin
last modified on August 23, 2010
Gigi and Gremlin Meet Gigi & Gremlin who are an adorable long haired Chihuahua pair. Gigi (mostly solid chocolate colored) is 6 years of age and Gremlin (chocolate & tan markings) the male is 4 years of age. These two sat at a local over-crowded shelter for four months until a rescuer decided to take them in to foster. Sadly Gigi was so stressed when in the main kennel area--she seemed to seizure. It appears as long as she is with her "brother" and in a quiet setting she does not appear to have any issues. So, this is a reason they must stray together as a pair. They both like to sit and cuddle in your lap craving lots of attention, but are not at all annoying or yippy. We are working on house breaking (understandably since they have been doing their business in a cage for 4 months!) They also do not appear to chew or seem to have any annoying/destructive behavior. If interested, please contact Galia (their foster mom) directly at: alonbeitner@yahoo.com
Annie & Cricket
last modified on August 27, 2010
Annie & Cricket Annie and Cricket are looking for their forever home where they can stay together and live happily without young children. They get along great with other animals, as a matter of fact, they absolutely love cats! They tend to be a little bossy when first meeting new dogs (even big ones). Annie is a tri color 5yr old, Cricket is a black and tan 3 yr old. They have always lived with older children (6yrs and up) and have never had problems. Since the youngest child was born (now 2yrs old) they have been unable to adjust and are not considered safe around him. Unfortunately this means they have spent lots of time away from the family. They would love a home where they can cuddle up on the couch and snuggle again. They are housebroken, but must be crated at night and when alone for long periods of time, which is fine since they don't mind their crate at all. Both have been through advanced obedience classes, and walk great on a leash, know all the basics plus several tricks. The pictures are from last year, they are currently shaved down for the summer.
