Feature Dog

Feature Dog: Porsche
last modified on August 19, 2008
Porsche Porsche arrived about 4 months ago in terrible shape. She had a severely broken leg, was emaciated and her coat looked terrible. There are a few photos still posted on the site of how she looked when she arrived. IDR drove to southern IL to pick her up and went straight to our vet who did a wonderful job of repairing the break. With her leg dangling, not once did Porsche show any type of reaction. What a stoic girl! The vet estimated her to be about 5 years old. Her pin has been removed, she gained the much needed weight and slowly, with brushing, her coat is looking great. Porsche is ready for a new home and so far she gets along with larger dogs with the right intros. She loves to lay outside in the sun with my Bulldog. She would not be good with smaller dogs or cats. She is very crate trained since she has had to be for the last 3 months. She would be fine with children, but would most likely plow over the small ones. She will most likely need some work on housemanners, walking on a leash and such since it is doubtful she had a great past and that is something we have not been able to work on with a broken leg. Please email Pam if you think you have the time to make her future brighter:orphandobe@ameritech.net
Rosemary Borzym wants Porsche to be ready to go roaring around - she sent DoberDuds and a donation. Vrooom Vrooom!

Special Needs

Ceasar
last modified on May 31, 2008
Ceasar Ceasar is an adorable 6 1/2 month old Dober pup who was turned into IDR by his owner that was moving and unable to dedicate the proper time and effort needed to care for such a young puppy. Unfortunately, after taking Ceasar in we noticed that he was walking a bit strange and had the vet check it out. He has hip dysplasia in both hips. It was decided he needed an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) in both hips to relieve the pain. The first surgery was done on January 15th. He is doing pretty well but it is hard for him since his other hip is bad too. Poor guy! We have talked to the vet and he suggested water therapy since that will be easier on both him but still give him the muscle that he so needs. He is such a sweet, sweet boy and worth every penny.
Update 2/10/08: He has started his therapy and doing great. It does cost us about 50 dollars each session so donations are always welcomed. We have included a few photos of his therapy.
It will be a few months before the other one can be done so he will not be available for adoption for quite some time.
Update 4/15/08:Its been awhile since my foster mom updated everyone on my progress so I finally had to do it for her ..... For six weeks now I have been doing this real fun thing that I hear everyone call the "water treadmill" ... at first I didn't like it very much and I wore this silly life jacket for my safety but now that I realized how much fun it is I run to the therapy room and jump right into the tank when my teacher calls me and shows me the treat bag ... (she is the nice lady who gives me lots of food praises for working so hard in the water and boy do I have her wrapped around my little paw) ... then last week my foster mom took me back to see my doctor who also had a special friend for me to visit with .. he was a nice man who came all the way from Boston who knows lots and lots about kids like me with bad hips .... I heard him say that I am doing remarkably well for a boy who has had such a rough start .. and then he said that I still need to get stronger before we can fix my other hip which works fine for me because that means lots of more visits to the nice lady with the treats .... I was going to come to the adoptathon on Sunday but I am so comfy here with my foster family I decided to sit this one out .... so until then I'll keep hanging out, enjoying the spring weather, going to therapy and waiting to find my forever family. Oh and one other cool thing ....... I heard them say I am going to start swimming to increase my range of motion ... I think this is going to be really fun !! Thanks to everyone who donated to IDR to help with the cost of my therapy .. I promise I am going to grow into a big strong boy that you will all be so proud of !!!!
Update 5/28/08: Look at what a handsome boy Ceaser is growing up to be !!! He is turning one on 5/30 and for his birthday present we got the news that all that therapy work has paid off and he is finally strong enough to have his second FHO surgery !! YEAH !!!! Even though we know he would have a rough time enjoying his birthday we knew that aside from a forever home, a pain-free hip was going to be the best present we could give him ……. so Ceaser had his second surgery on 5/27/08 !!! This little guy is such a trooper and has been through so much in the past year … please keep him in your thoughts and send him lots of love and Doberman kisses for a happy first birthday !!

The Lakics family donated Cesar's Dober Duds. IDR thanks them for all their wonderful donations.

Frosty
last modified on June 18, 2008
Frosty Our Frosty might have been on the wrong TV show as I believe it was Rudolph that had the island of misfits. Our little misfit is an adorable albino guy who just happens to be blind. He seems to have light and dark perception but that is all. He is an extremely happy pup that is just about 11 months old. He loves everyone and everything he has met so far. He is good with other dogs and I am sure cats are fine too as he really could not chase them too far. If he is placed with another dog it needs to be a very tolerant one that can handle it if Frosty accidentally steps on them or constantly wants to play with them. Right now he is fostered with Neraku who acts as his guide dog. He wears a bell and Frosty follows him everywhere. He is a such a smart boy. He absolutely loves bones and toys and has them all over the place to play with them. He is very smart as he can find the new toy very quickly that I have placed in the pile of toys. He is like a little kid on Christmas with his new toy. He has been excellent about housebreaking here but I let him out often and crate him when I am not home. He finds his way to the door and scratches it to go out. He will actually run around my yard with no fear. He has an adorable personality but he also has some difficult traits as well. He is hypersensitive to noise and tends to bark at any unknown noise so he will not work for a person who has a condo or townhouse. He learns routine well though it will take a few weeks to adjust to a new home. He is going to need to find a family that has a home that is ranch style as stairs are not easy for a blind dog. Also having a fenced yard is much easier for him. He would also not be good for younger children as he does get overexcited about things and spins and jumps. If you want to find out more about our special guy email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Lexus
last modified on August 19, 2008
Lexus This gorgeous red Doberman will be is just over 8 years old, but she has the heart of a teenager. Lexus lost her lifelong home due to the current state of our economy. Her owner lost her job, then her home, so she did the best she could for their beloved pet and gave her up to IDR+ so we could find her a forever home. This sweetie has been at my home for almost 3 months. She is crate trained & completely housebroken; she can easily make an 8-hour day. Lexus quickly earned her house privileges and no longer needs to be crated. During the day she has run of the house and at night she sleeps at the foot of my bed with her Dober-brother. She also lives with two cats and I have seen no prey drive toward them, but she has a healthy prey drive when she is in my backyard; chasing squirrels and chipmunks. A fenced in backyard is a must for this girl because she is deaf. Lexus was born deaf so she does not know any different way of life. She knows hand signals, as all dogs should, so you can continue to communicate with them as they grow older & their hearing begins to wane. Lexus taught me her hand signals and she would be happy to teach you. Also due to her hearing disability we will not place her in a home with small children. When she is asleep she is easily startled because she does not “warm up” to her environment, like a hearing dog does. Lexus adores people and she bonds quickly. She is a people pleaser so she loves attention; belly rubs, snuggling and is a pleasure to take on walks. Also Lexus in on a thyroid medication which is a common Dobe issue. Lexus truly is a sweet girl with a loving soul. Once you have decided you have a place in your heart for this special Dober-girl please fill out an application to adopt, then feel free to email Sheila at mydoberkids@yahoo.com with any questions you have about this delightful sweetie.
DoberDuds have been donated for this "luxury" dog - and she is ready to go!
Diablo
last modified on July 5, 2008
Diablo Do you like to ask yourself questions out loud? Diablo is the perfect companion for you! He likes to cock his head as if listening intently to your every word, and his brow is almost permanently furrowed as if he were seriously considering what you’re saying. No need for a human companion with Diablo around. He’ll never contradict you and will spend endless hours kissing your fingers. He is 2 years old and absolutely adorable even with his different looking head. According to his previous owner and vet, he seemed normal until about 8 months old. At that time, his forehead became permanently wrinkled and he developed some neurological peculiarities such as walking in circles and a tilted head. It is unclear as to why this change occurred. Diablo has seen our vet who believes there might have been accidental trauma that caused this, but he does not think it will worsen. He appears to be housebroken and is crate trained. Overall, he listens well and has a very loving personality. He is good with other dogs. However, the vet believes it would be better for him to be an only dog because his balance is sometimes off and he might fall over onto another dog, potentially getting into trouble. He does enjoy dogs though so it depends on the dog. Diablo needs to go to a home without a lot of steps as he is quite uncoordinated. If you are interested in adopting our special guy, email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Diablo will love to see his new DoberDuds given by Lola Gonzalez. He's a Dude with 'Duds!
Jack
last modified on August 14, 2008
Jack You don't know Jack, until you've met our Jack! This guy is absolutely adorable. Looking at his condition he most likely did not have the best start in life. He has a scar on his neck that looks like an embedded collar mark, was very thin, and tested positive for heartworm. Despite all that, this guy is nothing but butt wiggles and love nibbles. He has been treated for heartworm and will soon be ready for a new home. In the right situation he would be able to go now but he must be kept quiet for a month. He has not been mingled with the other dogs yet but seems that he will be fine. He is crate trained. If interested in Jack, please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Patricia Makutenas wants something softer around Jack's neck - so she donated his DoberDuds. Thanks![gren]

Chief
last modified on August 19, 2008
Chief Chief was surrendered to a shelter and the reason listed was, moving. He is said to be a year old but not too much information was listed on the surrender form. He is now in a foster home and doing great. However he will need a special owner as he is fearful of new people. He barks and gets worried but the issue has been solved in his foster home. We want him to go to someone ready to boost his confidence, not baby him. He is young and absolutely loves to learn. He responds so well to training. He is great with the other dogs and likes to play. Unfortunately he we had to cut his play short as he had to be treated for Heartworm and now has to rest. He is still available to be adopted now if it were the right setting. He is not a dog I would place with young children. He didn't seem bothered by the cats. He loves attention and will lay down at your feet when you get tired of petting him. This petite guy will make someone a great dog. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Kylee Cole has donated Chief's DoberDuds. She wants him to be a proud Dude and not scared anymore

Lucy
last modified on August 19, 2008
Lucy Lucy was picked up as a stray and her owners were never found, which was a good thing since she was covered in fleas and ticks. With a much needed bath she now has a wonderful soft and shiny black coat. Lucy is a very sweet, loving and beautiful Dober girl. She has a very easy going personality. She is currently living with other Dobermans, small dogs and even cats and gets along with all of them. Lucy is completely housebroken and does not need to be crated at all. She does very well in my home during a normal work day. When Lucy arrived we did notice she appears only to have limited hearing to the sounds around her, she is responding very well to hand signals, especially when it is time to go outside and come back in. She also seems to have a bit of a neurological issue, which our vet did agree, but determined that nothing really needs to be done about it, she is just fine. The one trait she does exhibit is she prefers to lay on her dog bed the majority of the day like a safe zone, when she is outside with the rest of the dogs, she loves to run around and play with them. She is thought to be around 2 years old. Lucy walks great on the leash and rides nicely in the car. When she eats her dinner, she is so very lady like, eats slowly and neatly, even takes her treats oh so gently. She loves getting attention, having her head scratched and her ears carressed. She is an absolute sweetheart. Lucy is who she is and a wonderful girl just the same. Thanks so much for reading about Lucy. She will make her future forever parents very proud. Inquires please email her foster mom, Nancy at gottahavedobes@yahoo.com
Alicia Alkire has donated DoberDuds for Lucy. Lucy says, "Thanks, Alicia"
Seniors

Titan
last modified on April 27, 2008
Titan Titan's story is one that we see too often, but still makes us very sad. A senior who needs to find a new home. This poor guy was given up because the owner didn't have enough time for him. When we made suggestions to her about different things she could do to keep him, her response was "Well he's 10!". So as you can see her commitment to him was not as strong as IDR's will be. We will find this guy a new home where he can be happy and loved until it is his time. Titan has a wonderful personality. He gets along with everyone he meets. He is a perfect gentleman with all the dogs (male and female) that he has met as well as the 3 cats that his foster mom has. He LOVES his crate and spends the majority of the day asleep in there. The door can be left open all day since he is such a good boy. He is housebroken and honestly doesn't do a thing wrong. If interested in giving this exceptional senior a home please email his foster mom Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Susan Lakics was kind enough to donate another collar and leash to one of our orphans.
Boomer
last modified on April 15, 2008
Boomer As a 7 year old Dobe, he might be called a senior. But don't tell Boomer that. Outside of some graying on his muzzle, and being a little overweight, he can run like a deer and loves playing with my Dober gal. Boomer is just the easiest Dobe I have ever fostered and, I must honestly admit, is better behaved than my own Dobies. Unfortunately, Boomer is needing another family because of the failing health of his Mom and she can no longer able to care for him. He is such a wonderful companion, I can only imagine that his former owners grieved, as much as he did, having to let him go. Boomer lived with both male and female dogs as well as cats. He is a true gentleman that loves his play but also knows to leave my elderly dog and cat alone. If you think you would like to add this wonderful guy to your family, promising to always cover him up before bedtime (as he is accustomed to) please contact his foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application.

Duke
last modified on August 19, 2008
Duke Have you ever heard the phrase, He has a really nice personality, though"? You know then and there what that means. It means he is not going to be the most attractive guy. Well...our senior guy Duke is that guy. He was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 8 years old. He has quite a few lumps and bumps but who doesn't? A bit of hip dysplasia, but that doesn't keep him from enjoying life. He absolutely loves to play with the other dogs. He is great with all dogs and all people he has met. Didn't seem to mind the meowing cats in the crates next to him for the long 2 hour ride so my guess is cats are okay too. He is completely housebroken, is mild mannered and great in the car. He has just the best personality and we are hoping someone will see him for who he is and give him the forever home he deserves. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Craig Wagner has kindly donated DoberDuds for our Duke to wear in his dukedom
Mack
last modified on June 25, 2008
Mack Poor Mack! At 10 years old he lost his home when his owner had to foreclose on her home. Look at how sad he looks in the photo. How can you not give this guy a new home? He is a very sweet and gentle boy that gets along with all the dogs at the foster home. He hasn't been with us long so he may not have settled in completely yet but what a great guy so far. He also is supposed to be fine with cats. Mack does not act his age and loves to play. He is housebroken and does not need to be crated. So if you are looking for an easy guy, don't let his age deter you from having a wonderful companion. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Amy Newman says, "I hope your new 'Duds put a smile on your sad face!". We hope so, too - Thanks, Amy.
Newt
last modified on August 17, 2008
Newt This poor guy was turned into animal control as an owner surrender, skinny and with Heartworm. He is supposed to be about 8-10 years old. He is just a wonderful guy that gets along well with the other dogs of all sizes. He is housebroken and does not need to be crated. He loves everyone and will lean on you every chance he gets. He is enjoying his nice comfy bed and his regular meals. He has been treated for Heartworm, had a dental and is ready to go. If you are looking for an easy older guy email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Baby Boo
last modified on July 19, 2008
Baby Boo You are not seeing things, Baby Boo is looking again for her forever home. She just doesn’t like to share her family with the rest of the animals. If you are looking for a wonderful, loving, and loyal companion for you or your family, then Baby Boo is for you. She may not be a youngster, but she is by no means an old lady! At age 7, she acts more like a 2 year old, but with all the perks! She is completely housebroken, knows right from wrong, and thrives on her human’s every word and praise. She evens smiles at you when she is happy or excited! She is very inquisitive, so she will not leave cats alone so she will need a home without cats. Though she has been able to coexist with some dogs, she really becomes jealous of them and would be best as an only dog. She has so much love and companionship to give to the right family or person. Her name fits her, as she is just one loving big baby. Please help Boo find the forever home she is searching for. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
JoAnn Peek has donated DoberDuds for Baby Boo. She also sent a message - "Donated in memory of my BooBoo girl"

Ice
last modified on June 6, 2008
Ice As you can see, Ice is a handsome 2-3 year old boy and he's ready for a forever home to chill in. Ice has had some obedience training and is looking for a new family to teach him even more "tricks." He walks well on a leash and knows sit and down (he knows them especially well when there is food involved!!). Ice is still very playful and does play rough, so he would do well with another large female dog, but really needs a home without small dogs or kids. Ice can also be very barky when there are distractions outside the home, so apartments or homes on busy streets might not be the best fit for him. Ice is very athletic and loves to run, play fetch, and has even done some agility work. He'd love a family that can keep his mind and body as busy as can be. Ice would also like to mention that he spins when excited (which is a lot of the time!) and can spin both directions. For more information email his foster mom, Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com.
Dober Duds for Ice were donated by Daphne Mitchell.
Gabe
last modified on March 8, 2008
Gabe Gabe is new to IDR and his current foster home. He came from a shelter and did not have a great home before and has a mark on his head where he was hit with a pipe by the owner. He was supposed to have lived with kids, cats and dogs, but I would not recommend that he go with kids or cats. He loves to play with other dogs but is VERY rough when he plays so he would not do well with small dogs. He is 2 years old but still has all his puppy energy. Gabe is very active and needs a home that will provide him with lots of exercise and structure. Obedience classes are a must for him as he has a lot of learning to do. He can sit and is learning to lie down. If you think you can provide the time, committment and training that Gabe needs, please contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Thanks again to Susan Lakics for dressing up Gabe.

Skye
last modified on May 31, 2008
Skye Skye's bio is particularly difficult to write -- not because he has problems to gloss over, but because he has come so far and made such a huge transformation since he came into rescue that it is difficult to capture the essence of that change with mere words. The facts about Skye are that he is a beautiful deep charcoal blue, is about 18 months to two years old, and came to rescue through a shelter where he was turned in by a person who found him too much to handle after getting him from an owner that tied him outside to a doghouse for the most of his short life. The story of Skye's transformation opens with a very skinny, very frightened dog that had no manners, no knowledge of how to be a good companion and absolutely no self-confidence whatsoever. As a result of his lack of self-confidence and fear, he would submissively urinate at the slightest interaction. Six months later, the next act in the story shows Skye full of confidence, having learned the routine and rules of the house, that people are kind, that he can count on having adequate food and water, and that toys are lots of fun to play with. He is housebroken with supervision, is crate trained, has learned to hang out and relax in the kitchen, and has made friends with many different dogs. However, this description truly does not capture the full essence of the change in Skye during the past six months. Somewhere along the line, he became a happy-go-lucky dog, full of play and a zest for life. I'm not quite sure when it happened, but one day I just noticed that this was not the same dog I started out with! Skye is ready for his forever home, which will ideally have a fenced yard, no children under 10 or cats, another playful large dog (preferrably female), and patient, understanding owners that can train Skye through positive methods in the basics of being a canine good citizen. He is now mentally ready for basic obedience training and will enjoy the closeness and bond that training provides. For more information on Skye, please contact Laura at knollbg@msn.com, and to read of Skye's early days in rescue, see the link http://www.gamefanatic.org//IDR/Skye
Nancy Chandler has graciously donated Skye's collar and leash.
Louie
last modified on June 14, 2008
Louie Sweet Louie unfortunately was used as a stud dog.(Please read our information regarding the Albino Doberman.) Thankfully, he has now made his way to IDR and will no longer be producing any puppies and he will find himself a great home. He is 4 years old. Louie is a bit fearful of things but getting much better. We were told he did not have the best beginning in life but we will definitely change that for him. He is now in a foster home and he is wonderful guy. No vices at all, except that he is VERY fearful of men. We are working on his fear issues, but it is very evident that he was very badly abused by a man in his previous life. Other than that he is a typical velcro dog and follows his foster Mom and brother everywhere. He is great with other dogs but cannot do cats. He was not aggressive with the cat but just WAY to interested in her. He plays well with other dogs of all ages and sizes and is very respectful of their space. Louie has great leash manners and doesn't even need a pinch to be walked. He is crated when no one is home because he tends to get on the counter when no one is there with him. He never bothers anything while someone is in the house with him though. He is an incredibly sweet boy that bonds very quickly so we are hoping to find him a forever home soon so he can bond with someone who will love him forever. Ledger
last modified on July 2, 2008
Ledger Ledger is a sweet and handsome fawn boy that was picked up as a stray. He is thought to be about 1 1/2 years old. He is currently in a foster home and doing great. He's smart and picks up on things very quickly. He knows how to “sit” “down” and “wait” for food and at the door. We are still working on “come”, but it’s getting better all the time. He will need an owner that is consistent with training and an obedience class will be required. Ledger is very sweet and once he learns your routine he settles right in as part of the family. He gets along well with the foster dogs, but tends to play a little rough. If placed with other dogs they probably should be younger and like to play also. He would do best with a single person or couple without kids that want a dog to be their best friend - take him places and spend a great deal of time with him. He rides great in the car and loves to travel. He needs to be kept active and involved - otherwise he will find less desirable ways to entertain himself. As long as he gets plenty of activity he will be happy to nap on his bed beside you while you relax for the evening. A 5’ (at least) fence would be recommended because he shows a great deal of interest in anything going on outside the fence. He does bark some but it isn’t aggressive, just excited. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but seems to have a high prey drive - so they would not be recommended. He has met little dogs and kids and does fine with both, but he would be too active for little children and might knock them down. Ledger will walk well with the prong collar, but still tends to pull without it. He has been trained to walk on a treadmill and enjoys the focus that this requires. He's housebroken and can handle being crated for a full workday, but tends to bark and whine when first left alone. Although he settles down pretty quickly he may not be a good candidate for an apartment or condo. He is very food oriented, so easy to work with but also a counter surfer if given the opportunity. He loves to chew so he has some durable nylabones, antlers, kong, etc. He adores being brushed and does well with getting his nails done. He’s really a lover and enjoys belly rubs and snuggling. Sturgis
last modified on July 2, 2008
Sturgis Minus the motorcycle, Sturgis has ridden into the IDR Plus world once again, no fault of his own though. Sturgis’ family has lost their home and poor Sturgis could not go along for the ride. Sturgis is now three years old. He has actually completed two obedience classes and earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. His previous adoptive mom had plans on rally obedience with him as well before his world was turned upside down. If you are ready for a fun loving, playful, energetic dog, then Sturgis is your boy. He strives very hard to please his foster mom and is oh so smart. He loves to chase after balls or just about anything you can throw for him, be careful though, he also likes to tear them apart if no one is watching. Sturgis needs activity and exercise in his daily routine, he walks nicely on the leash. He is definitely not a couch potato fellow. He can be on the “vocal side”, everything is exciting to him. Sturgis does need to be crated when left alone, he will chew on cloth items. Sturgis has lived successfully with older children and a female dobe. He can not be placed in a home with cats. It is recommended that Sturgis has a fenced in yard to romp and play in. Sturgis has adjusted to his foster home and all the changes he has faced but he would feel much better with a loving, motivated new family to call his very own. Please contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net.
Sturgis really could use a break!

Bach
last modified on June 26, 2008
Bach Bach LOVES to play!! He is happiest when he is running around the backyard with his foster brothers and sisters. He is a very happy puppy that loves everyone he meets. Bach is 10 months old. Just like any puppy he needs rules and training. He will need to be crated when you are not home. He was adopted as a puppy from animal control and the owners had his ears cropped. now that we have him in our program we think he is a mix of some sort. Quite possibly a Rottweiler but that doesn't make him any less adorable! He has a great temperament. Bach is a little bit too exhuberant with cats so NO cats for this boy.

Tobi
last modified on April 7, 2008
Tobi This is Tobi, a sweet boy who started doing poorly in a shelter situation after about 6 weeks. This happens a lot with dobes, who don't seem to do well at animal shelters. Fortunately he's now at IDR and searching for the perfect home. Tobi is a very handsome 80 pound black and dark rust boy with a docked tail and natural ears. He is two years old and hasn't had much obedience training, but he is a very fast learner and wants to be taught how to do things the right way. His previous owner kept him outside during the summer and inside in the winter- not the best way to teach a dog how to properly behave around others when most of the time there was no one else around. As a result Tobi craves attention and wants nothing more than someone to play with and call "his person". Tobi bonds easily and knows how to sit when asked. He has done well with other dogs but has the propensity to play a bit rough when he gets excited. So far this has only been an annoyance with some older dogs, as Tobi doesn't seem to understand their signals that "enough is enough". Tobi crates well and will have to be crated while he's not being watched until he learns how to properly behave in the house. He can be very mellow but he is just now learning to distinguish his toys from everything else that shouldn't be chewed. He loves to ride in the car and can walk as long as you can at the park or in your neighborhood. Tobi will benefit from daily vigorous exercise (can you teach him to jog with you?), obedience classes that include other dogs, consistent handling and a lot of love and attention. Due to his size and exuberance he is not recommended to homes with children under 10; however, it's fully expected that he will do well with smaller children after he learns that he doesn't have to beg for every ounce of love and attention that he craves. He has not yet been tested with cats. Tobi is not recommeded as a companion for older dogs. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Tobi is delighted to start out his search for a new home with DoberDuds donated by Susan Lakics who dresses so many of our dogs for success
Stabler
last modified on July 1, 2008
Stabler Stabler was picked up as a stray and nobody claimed him. He is an adorable albino guy that is just as sweet and goofy as they come. He is about 2 years old. He loves to carry about his stuffies and loves to play with the other dogs. He can be a bit mouthy with them but does listen well if they correct him. He is okay with little dogs and cats too but does like to chase so if it is a zoomy little dog or a cat that runs, he will chase.
So with training he could live with them. He is a bit barky with new noises, otherwise he is quiet enough for condo. He is destructive when left unattended, so he has to be crated when home alone. Best that his crate is placed away from front door or noisy neighbors where sounds will wake him and excite him as he wants out and play. He is high energy, so lots running and activities will help tire him and quiet him down during the day. He also cannot be left alone for 8-10 hours work day, as that would lead to whining and barking. He is fine in the crate for 4-6 hours. He is housebroken. Stabler has been friendly with everyone he has met so far. He loves attention and loves to lay at or on your feet. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Lori Martin has donated DoberDuds for Stabler so he can be all dressed up
Neraku
last modified on April 21, 2008
Neraku Neraku had to be surrendered to a humane society because his owner was going to Iraq. He is 9 months old and quite a sweet boy. He came to us very skinny and with bad kennel cough. He is finally healthy and ready for a new home. He lived with a small dog and cats before being turned in and the owner said he only wanted to play with them. We know this is true as he is very playful with all dogs, a bit too playful for some. He is crate trained and housebroken and does need to be crated when you are not home. He loves everyone he meets. Sometimes a bit shy for a minute or two but once you pet him he is all over you for attention. He is just a bit puppy and will need obedience classes as most young Dobes do. As you can see he likes to be up on my counter so he can see what is going on in the living room. He also loves small spaces and constantly goes into the small dog crate where he is even though he has access to a Doberman sized crate. He loves toys and loves to play. Overall he is an easy foster puppy. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Nicole DeCillo wanted Neraku to be "lookin' good" in DoberDuds when he goes to his forever home. Thanks.
Watson
last modified on July 3, 2008
Watson Watson was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 4 years old. He's very friendly and gets along great with other dogs. He crates very well and loves to cover himself with blankets! He will snuggle down and you won't be able to see him. He loves to cuddle on the couch with you or the other dogs in the house. Watson is housebroken and will stand at the door when he needs to go out. Watson loves to play outside and explore the yard with his foster siblings. Watson was placed and returned due to growling. However, I still cannot get him to growl in my house. So he would do best in a home with an assertive(not heavy handed)owner that will take him to obedience classes to help build his confidence. Because of his history I will not place him in a home with small children. For more information please contact his foster mom Sandy at sandra_shephard@adp.com
Caroline Anderson says, "Watson is adorable!". She has kindly donated his Doberduds. Thanks!
Hart
last modified on July 19, 2008
Hart Hart is a beautiful 2 year old but is quite a handful. He will need an owner who will go to obedience classes and a deposit will be required. Hart is extremely jumpy and energetic. He will make a great companion but does need work. He will not be adopted to a home with small children and you must have a fenced yard. He is fine with other dogs but plays rough.
Susan Lakics has outfitted another dog with DoberDuds. We can rely on Susan to keep them looking good!
Lotus
last modified on August 13, 2008
Lotus Lotus is an adorable 1 year old boy. He is lively, energetic and sweet. He loves people and attention; however, his enthusiasm may be overwhelming at times. He also plays well with other dogs. Because he is a year old, he does have a lot to learn. Lotus has the luxury of being fostered by a trainer and is quite smart. However, he will need more training, and an obedience deposit will be required so that he will receive the training he needs to teach him some manners. To help Lotus blossom and become all he can be, please contact his foster parents at wetnose@sbcglobal.net
He doesn't look like a Lotus Blossom, but maybe he will "blossom" with DoberDuds donated by Susan Lakics
Zoom
last modified on July 28, 2008
Zoom Zoom was adopted from a shelter a few months ago but the owner lost their home and had to surrender him and another dog back to the shelter. She said he was good with her older kids, loves to play ball and loves affection. He is a bigger guy but a bit thin right now. He is said to be about 3 years old. He seems like a very good boy overall and is just so sweet. He is housebroken and is fine for a workday when left alone in the kitchen. He loves to be outside and hang out in the sun. He is great going for walks and just seems to love everyone. He just adorable when he is happy as he picked up a bone or some object and runs around the house with it. If you are looking for a big sweet boy email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Kristen Carey sends DoberDuds to Zoom. Her message is - "From Hogan Carey, who thinks red-heads rock!"
Natural Apollo
last modified on July 27, 2008
Natural Apollo Man does this guy need some groceries! Apollo came to us as a transfer from another shelter because he was just so thin and as we all know Dobes don't kennel well. He was so content in the car he curled up in a ball and just went to sleep. We don't know too much about him as he only just arrived. He is thought to be about 2 years old. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Sarah Madalinski has donated DoberDuds for Natural Apollo. She also sends this message, " ... donated by/in memory of Sage Senneff ... "
Butler
last modified on August 17, 2008
Butler Butler was picked up as a stray. He was extremely thin and had kennel cough so we have just been working on making him healthy. Now he is feeling great but we just have no open foste homes. He seems like a younger guy, maybe 1 1/2 years old. He is crate trained and overall a quiet guy. He does seem to want to play with the other dogs but he has not been mingled yet. He will need a bit of work on his mouthing which he does when he is happy. No small kids due to this.
Pearl Latteier saw this thin boy and wants to donate DoberDuds to cheer him up and give him somthing to work on his new "look". Thanks, Pearl
Shooter
last modified on August 20, 2008
Shooter Shooter is a very energetic boy 1 year old who loves to play, get attention and have his ears rubbed. For his age though he is definitely on the laid back side. He is a bit on the shy side as well. He did come with unusual looking back feet. He actually had 6 toes on each foot. Our vet did look at him and decided to remove the dew claws that stuck out as long as he was under for a neuter. It seems like he has not had all the normal dog experiences as he does avoid certain steps like the open backed ones. Shooter is working on getting housebroken, and only playing with HIS toys... he loves to play with toys and chew on bones. In fact, he needs a lot of toys or he will find other things to play with! He loves pillows, blankets, throw rugs and shoes... luckily he brings them right to you, so he doesn't destroy them; just gets them a little wet! He gets along well with other dogs and loves to play. Shooter responds well when you call him by name and knows some basic commands. He needs obedience training as he's still a pup, and he is strong and tall. He's a bit clumsy and when he bumps into things he almost "laughs at himself" and wags his little tail! He's happily working on gaining weight, and loves to work for treats. He is a very smart dog! He is nervous in the car but is getting more exposure to it and doing better. He is working on behaving on the leash, but really enjoys going for walks and being outside. He barks at everything, and is learning to be quiet and mindful of the neighbors! Overall he is a very loving, eager to please big baby boy that can't wait to get into his forever home! If interested email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Barbara Perry sends DoberDuds for Shooter - and a message. "Wishing this sweet boy a good but short stay and then into a forever loving home"
Otori
last modified on August 13, 2008
Otori Otori is about 1 year old. He is a typical Doberteen! Very high energy and a bit mouthy. This boy is sweet as can be and loves to play with people or dogs. Although he is new to IDR, he already shines with a happy personality and willingness to please. Otori would be wonderful at agility or anything else that keeps him active and challenged. This boy is not for the adopter looking for a low key companion. He is a dog of action, he can run, jump and play with the best of them. Are you looking for a jogging partner? He's your guy. For more information please contact Sandy at sandra_shephard@adp.com
Pam Krause and her dog Stone have donated DoberDuds for Otori. Maybe he can wear them jogging!

last modified on August 13, 2008
Shadow Shadow was surrendered to the shelter because did not feel they could care for him properly. He is a year old and has a beautiful blue coat. He lived with another dog and older children in his last home and did well with everyone. He is not in a foster home yet so we will have to add more information once we get to know him better. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Pam Krause and her dog Stone want Shadow to feel he's being cared for properly and is on his way to a forever home soon. They've sent him DoberDuds to cheer him up{green]

Jenny
last modified on May 26, 2008
Jenny Jenny is a very sweet girl who has been with us many months and is still waiting for a home. She came from Kentucky where she was dropped off at animal control with three other Dobermans. She is thought to be about 5 years old and is a bit shy and on the quiet side. She loves to go for walks, lay on her dog bed with a toy and hang out with her people. She is crate trained and housebroken and gets along great with the two male dogs she lives with, but cannot live with cats. She has a few quirks like walking in circles sometimes. Jenny will be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, quiet and quirky girl. Email Jennifer at n2dobes@comcast.net
Jenny looks wonderful in her collar and leash donated by Susan Lakics. She knows she will have to wait awhile to show it off in her new home, but she wants to thank Susan.
Judy
last modified on May 31, 2008
Judy Judy is a beautiful dobergirl who needs a new home. She has been a faithful and wonderful companion to her owner; however, she recently started to fight with her two canine housemates. Since they are both older dogs it seems to be in the best interest of all involved to find Judy a new home. She is almost 3 years old. Because of the recent fights she must be placed as an only dog. She is sweet tempered and loves to cuddle!! She is comfortable in her crate once she learns the routine. She is active and loves to run and play. Her favorite things to do are going for walks and playing with her Kong ball. She is an intelligent girl and is very good at obedience training. She needs someone who will continue to work with her so she can reach her full potential. She can be vocal at times so she is not a good condo or apartment dog. Since she is unfamiliar with children she will only be place with families with children over 12 years old. A passive home would work best for her and a fenced yard is a must. For more information about Judy, please contact Tina at cmwltdinc@aol.com
Even before a bio could be written Amy Newman wanted Judy to have DoberDuds and made the donation on PayPal. Thanks!
Beautiful Rose
last modified on July 30, 2008
Beautiful Rose Beautiful Rose and two other Dobes were dropped off at the shelter by a breeder. Rose is 2 years old, crate-trained, housebroken, and walks nicely on a leash. She also sits for her meals and gives her paw for treats. She is still working on her new commands of wait, lie down, and come. Rose is energetic and playful, but is also very needy and a leaner. You will certainly feel loved with Rose! Rose gets along well with the female and male dobes in her household. She will try to take toys away from the other dogs, but is learning that isn’t a nice thing to do. She hasn't met anybody she doesn't like. Rose has been left alone for up to five hours and definitely would prefer a playmate. She likes a game of chase, but not rough play. Rose has been caught with socks and other cotton items, but can easily be talked into Nylabones and tennis balls instead. Rose loves belly rubs, walks, runs, playing ball/fetch and snuggling. She would like to earn the privilege of occupying your couch. In order to get closer to the action, Rose can and will jump baby gates. A fenced yard is definitely recommended. Rose’s new owner must take her to obedience classes and a security deposit will be required. Since Rose has so much energy, she needs to let it out somehow. You would both enjoy participating in agility classes. If you are interested in Rose, please email Teresa at tntndobes2@aol.com.
April Klein, all the way from Eugene, Oregon, has donated DoberDuds for Beautiful Rose. Wow! Thanks, April
Cleo
last modified on August 4, 2008
Cleo Miss "Cleopatra" (Cleo) was given up by her family as they felt they couldn't provide enough attention and time for her. She was very skinny when she arrived but looks great now. We don’t know her past but hope to improve her future. She would do best in a quieter home but also a home that will raise her confidence level as she is a bit on the shy side. She is okay with other dogs, but gets overwhelmed by groups of dogs. She would be best placed with older children as she can get scared of sudden and loud noises. She is housebroken and does not need to be crated. She has perfect housemanners here. She is so sweet, gentle and loving. Cleo just turned 6 years old. She also makes a great Elvis impression which you can see in her photo. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
The folks at birdfreak.com send this message, "From all of us at birdfreak.com, good luck Cleo!" They also donated her DoberDuds
Lexie
last modified on July 3, 2008
Lexie Lexie was surrendered to a shelter as the family just had a baby and had to move as well. She is very petite and a happy, sweet little girl. Lexie loves everyone she has met at her foster home and just thrives on human contact. She would love obedience as she loves to please. Though coexisting with another dog she can be quite a dominant little thing and would be best as an only dog. She is 3 years old and your typical blue with a sparse coat. She is very smart and easy to train. She is housetrained, crate trained and knows her basic commands. She does seem to get a bit amped up on the leash so may need to work on her skills in that area. Overall Lexie has been a very easy foster girl. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Raymond Rosenow has kindly donated Lexie's DoberDuds. Lexie says, "Thanks!"
Georgia
last modified on July 30, 2008
Georgia Georgia is a petite 1 1/2 year old cutie. Georgia was surrendered to animal control because the owner bought the dog for her adult son who couldn't seem to take care of her. She loves attention and will follow right on your heals everywhere you go. She will sit on the floor and entertain herself by playing with her stuffed toys & Kong. Georgia can sit nicely for her food, treats, and to have her leash put on and taken off. She enjoys going for walks, and will walk nicely with a prong collar, but will pull on a flat collar if something excites her. She is housebroken, and will pace in front of the door when she needs to go out. She is learning the crate, however if she is in the crate and she knows you are home, she will cry, but once she can see you she is quiet. With us she seems a little timid around men, and fast movements seem to scare her so she can't be placed with anyone with kids under 8 years. The strange thing is, she was owned by a man and she was raised in a home where they had a daycare. She lived with 2 small dogs in her previous home however we are not finding her to be a good candidate for a home with other dogs. If you are interested in a beautiful dobergirl who will never leave your side, please e-mail kattwoman5@yahoo.com
Teri Noland had "Georgia On Her Mind" when she donated DoberDuds for her. She'll wear them proudly, even if she doesn't go to Georgia.
Dixie
last modified on August 13, 2008
Dixie Dixie was surrendered to the shelter because they took her in from a friend to watch and the people did not want her back. She did well with the male dog in the home but had mood swings with the other female in the home. She is fostered with a male and does fine. She is good with cats but sometimes a little tempted to chase but wouldn't hurt them. Dixie is very friendly and loves people. She is housebroken and crate trained. A little bit of crying but overall very quiet in and out of the crate. She loves to play with a stuffed toy or tennis ball. She will need a little bit of work on leash walking but is very good on a prong collar. Dixie really enjoys a good walk and would make a good running partner. She really is an easy girl overall with an average amount of exercise. She is five years old and waiting patiently for her new home. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
This "Dixie Chick" will be lookin' good in her DoberDuds donated by Dominick Thomasello
Jolie
last modified on July 17, 2008
Jolie Jolie was turned into a humane society as she was just too much for her new owners to handle. She was originally adopted from that humane society as well and they had her about 2 months. It sounds like Jolie has a bit of separation anxiety and will need to find a patient and consistent owner. She will need to be crated when you are not home in order to make sure she does not do anything wrong due to those anxieties. She is such a loving girl. Though she lived with a dog in the last home it sounds like she would be best as an only child. Jolie is only about 1 1/2 years old and still very much a puppy so will need an owner willing to exercise her both mentally and physically. She has only just arrived but she is absolutely adorable. Seems as if she would play well with other dogs away from her home but won't necessarily like to share within her home. She is well trained and loves to work. This girl seems as if she would be a great agility girl just from the short time spent with her. She is incredibly happy and loves everyone. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Kristen Carey also sends DoberDuds to Jolie with a message - "From Cali Carey, who thinks DoberDuds will look smashing on Jolie!" Maybe we should nickname her "Angelina"
Jazzy
last modified on July 25, 2008
Jazzy Jazzy was surrendered due to divorce. The owners had 5 dogs and they could each only take one to their new homes. Jazzy just turned a year old. She can be shy at first but then warms up. The surrender sheet says she is housebroken and crate trained. She is also able to jump fences however was fine in their 5-foot chainlink. They said she would be fine with other dogs though has only lived with males. She is new to our program so we will add more information once we get to know her better. Email Kat at Kattwoman5@yahoo.com
Dominick Thomasello has kindly donated DoberDuds for Jazzy
Willow
last modified on July 27, 2008
Willow Willow was picked up as a stray and nobody reclaimed her. She is a sweet girl that needs some TLC to get back in shape. She is very thin and looks like she may have had a litter or two. Those days are over for her and now she is looking for someone to commit to her forever. She is thought to be about 4 years old. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Willow is a bit too "willowy" and needs to fatten up a bit. Alicia Alkire has donated DoberDuds to ensure that she will be a real beauty queen at adoption time
Bambi
last modified on August 19, 2008
Bambi Looking to add a vivacious, "life of the party" redhead to your life? Bambi is about a year old & definitely on the petite side (about 50#) for a dobe. Despite a cruel idiot mangling her ears, we think she's beautiful. She is very friendly & loves to be with people. If you let her, she'll climb up on your lap & cover you w/kisses. Bambi is confident, intelligent & full of energy, which can be a mixed blessing, depending on your perspective. She will be a blast to train & would be a very fun dog to do agility, rally, or obedience with. Actually she'd be delighted to accompany you on any type of adventure. Despite having no formal training (yet), she will work very hard to focus on you & try to figure out what you want. She is very food motivated & would do best with someone who will use that motivation for her training. She walks pretty nicely on leash as well. While she's very friendly, we would recommend a home with older children due to her youth & exuberance. While she can certainly be taught not to do this, at this point she will jump up on people when she gets excited which could knock over or frighten tiny children. Whoever adopts her should be prepared to take her to at least a basic obedience class. She could live with other dogs, as long as they are pretty tolerant. Bambi very badly wants to make doggie friends, but doesn't seem to have been taught much in the way of "doggie manners." She does not show any aggression towards other dogs, much more like an awkward teenager with no social graces who is unintentionally rude. However, we find this to be the case with many young dobes who are able to learn better play skills. Email Kat at Kattwoman5@yahoo.com
Bambi is grinning in her photo because we just told her that Diana Paterno has donated DoberDuds for her to wear

Isabella
last modified on August 18, 2008
Isabella Meet Isabella. A pretty name for a pretty gal. Thought to be around 3 yrs old, she was turned into a shelter along with her brother, who I'm told was very dominant and beat up on her frequently. Who knows the reason they were surrendered; not enough time, too much trouble, etc. We've heard all the excuses. And as is typical with an uncaring owner, she was not spayed and had at least one litter before making her way to ILDR+. Despite her questionable beginnings, she is a very sweet gal and a kissing fool. She loves her crate running right in for a treat or for her meals. She does well with smaller dogs and is not too concerned with my cats. Yes, we think she is probably a mix as her coat is slightly longer. But she sure has the Dober lean down pat and loves being by your side. The only thing you have to watch out for is her lizard tongue that strikes and plants a big wet on you when you least expect it! If you would like additional information about Isabella, contact her foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com
Thanks to Dixie Howard for donating DoberDuds for Isabella. She'll be proud to wear them at her forever home
Shelby
last modified on August 13, 2008
Shelby Shelby was surrendered along with Zoey. Reason listed, so she will have an owner that appreciates her. She is a beautiful girl and just turned 4 in March. She lived with a Toddler, cats and another female dog. She was described on her sheet as being friendly and playful. She is crate trained and housebroken but does have an incontinence issue that many spayed females have. Shelby just arrived so we will add more information once we get to know her better. Email Kat at Kattwoman5@yahoo.com
Shelby will be wearing DoberDuds donated by Christi Mugele when she goes to her forever home. Generous donors like Christi continue to make this program a success
Zoey
last modified on August 16, 2008
Zoey Zoey and Shelby were turned in together. Reason listed, so they could have an owner that appreciates her. Zoey is a very pretty girl but very overweight. She will need to lose a good 15 pounds to be of a healthy weight. We will help her work toward that with a little more exercise and little less food. She lived with a young child, cat and another female dog in her last home. They listed her as being crate trained and housebroken. She is listed as being affectionate, playful and sweet. She will be 4 years old in October. Email Kat at kattwoman5@yahoo.com
DoberDuds were ... "sent with love from the Gilman family and in memory of our beloved Zoey Marie"

Melody

Melody WOW! I have come such a long way. I still need to walk on a front clip harness when taking a stroll with my family (especially with ducks around!), but I no longer bark at rocks, flag poles, or people when they are in sight. I still want to bark at other dogs walking along outside by me, but when my foster mom says, “Watch me”, I look up at her face, sit, and wait for her next command. Sometimes I even get a treat for doing this quickly!! Which reminds me, I really need to lose about 7 pounds. My foster dad wasn’t watching me close enough during the week when it was time to eat and I frequently ate everyone’s food!!!! I also am good with cats now, even when they run from me. The timid house cat brushes up against my legs once in a while now and the outgoing house cat (he was born in a house full of dogs) thinks I am a dog to play tag with, hee hee hee. The ideal family for me would be one that has a fenced in yard, children over five years, another dog to play with (or a dog friendly cat), and time to play a few hours a day. If you are interested in me, please contact my foster mom: Ann for more information at agdobie1@aol.com. I have been waiting a long time for a new home.
Melody's collar and leash were donated by Rebecca, in memory of Roz.
Jack
last modified on April 28, 2008
Jack Jack is an adorable guy who was found as a stray in Chicago. He must have a lucky streak in him as he was scheduled to be put down but the shelter staff just couldn’t bear to do so because he is so sweet. He is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix and roughly eight or nine years old. He most definitely does not act like a senior, but that's probably because the life expectancy of his breeds is roughly fourteen to sixteen years old. He's really only middle aged!
Jack is one spry guy and very interested in remaining active. He loves to follow us around the house and is thrilled when he goes outside. While he is active, he doesn’t have that frenetic energy terriers typically display. His personality is fun but a bit more mature. Currently Jack is living with male and female dogs of all sizes and ages and he is doing fine. He is also fine with cats. Occasionally he will play with one of our dogs, but he is more interested in being with people. He recently discovered that beds have blankets and snuggling under them is wonderfully warm and cozy! If you prefer Jack not be a bed buddy, that’s fine too as he loves his bolster bed. Jack is a great companion in the evenings and will curl in your lap on the couch to watch television asking only for an ear rub every now and then. He is an easy-going, affectionate boy who gets along with everyone. However, Jack’s hearing has decreased but he isn’t entirely deaf. You can easily get his attention by clapping. Jack hasn’t had any obedience so we are working on that in his foster home. Due to his lack of obedience and hearing deficiency, a home with an outside dog pen or fenced yard would be perfect so he could have relief time off leash. However, other situations are a possibility. He is showing no signs of arthritis and easily goes up and down stairs. When Jack first arrived with us he did jump on people quite a bit, but since he is eager to please he has gotten much better and rarely jumps on humans anymore. Jack is housebroken and once he learns where your doors are, he will go to one and cry to be let outside. He rides well in a car and easily is crated. Jack was cooperative for his bath and nail trim. Jack is up to date on all his vaccinations, is neutered and recently had a dental. Jack’s adoption fee is $100 and his bolster bed will go with him to his forever home. If you are interested in this little guy, please contact Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net
Jack says "Thanks" to Carlisle Charlton from Iowa who has donated his DoberDuds
Fred
last modified on May 23, 2008
Fred Fred has been in a new foster home for a couple of weeks and is doing very well. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and genders and is fine with the cats as well. Fred has a spinal issue that causes him to walk with a staggering gait and drag his back feet a little bit. This does not slow him down at all, but he needs a home where he does not have to do stairs. He is house broken, as long as he gets regular outside breaks, and is very content in his crate. He loves to spend time on the couch with his favorite people and will make someone a great companion. If you can open your heart up to this slightly "special needs" older gentleman please email Jane at wevmit@sbcglobal.net.

Nikki
last modified on August 11, 2008
Nikki Nikki thought he had found his forever home. He loved his 95 year old Mom dearly and it was obvious she loved him too. Although she lived alone, neither she or her family ever worried about her safety as Nikki was excellent at making sure that anyone even walking by her home would know she wasn't alone. But she did worry about what would happen to Nikki if she passed away before he did. I would reassure her that I would make sure that Nikki was taken care of. And, although his Mom hasn't passed away, she is unable to care for herself requiring that her family put her in a nursing facility. It's a good thing that her mental facilities have failed as she would be so worried about her little guy. She would be so happy to know that, although Nikki isn't a Doberman, IDR+ made room for this very special boy. Nikki is a 10 year old Terrier/Schnauzer that is still very full of life but, because of his low key lifestyle, would probably do best in a more calm home. He lived as the only pet but has periodically lived with a female cocker while Mom was in the hospital. We aren't sure of Nikki's feelings about cats or children but will update this posting as we get to know him better. If you are interested in learning more about Nikki, contact his foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application found on our website.
This boy took such good care of his elderly Mom. Now we'll make sure that he gets taken care of - and Patricia Makutenas has started the process by donating his DoberDuds. Thanks!
Io
last modified on July 15, 2008
Io Io here! Funny name, huh? Well it doesn’t stand for anything, Io is a moon of Jupiter and that was my brother’s name. I did like to orbit him a lot. I am a dober-mutt. Mom was a red Doberman, but dad is anyone’s guess. Maybe lab, I have webbed toes, and maybe German Shepherd, because of my coloring and I do that one leg behind the other thing with the hook in my tail. I am looking for a new home, because my first home just wasn’t the right place for me. There was a young girl there, who I thought was my littermate. Actually, I think all children under 10 are my littermates. I just could not stop trying to mouth her to get her to play with me so it would be best for me to be in a family with only adults or older children who can be consistent with correcting me when I get mouthy. Ideally, I would like to be with people who have had experience with Dobermans or other working dogs. I really need someone who understands that I need a job to do, because I get bored easily, but I know some of that is my short puppy attention span. In fact it would be excellent to train me for volunteer Search and Rescue, because I have had some agility training and love to go through tunnels, walk on planks, go canoeing, and my nose is on the ground pretty often. I enjoy new experiences and challenges. I’m really not afraid of much. I know how to sit, wait to go out the door, wait to eat and let you check out my new teeth, lay down, give paw, come and stay, briefly. I need work on giving up things in my mouth. I would rather run away with your shoe than give it back! I am only 6 months old and about 45 pounds so I have not perfected my techniques yet. I need a family who will continue to practice with me. I am very motivated by treats. I love other dogs. I am great with big adult dogs, but I need some work with dogs that are smaller than me. I really don’t take them seriously, yet, when they say “back off”. When other dogs want to play with me I am very springy, and can leap over a large Labrador in a single bound. I love the dog park and will greet the other dogs and owners nicely. I have only met one of those cat things and I thought she wanted to play with me so I pawed her. I think she got mad. My favorite toys are squeaky rubber toys. Sometimes I will retrieve, but often get distracted by smells in the air or on the ground. Give me a bully stick or pressed rawhide and I am content for an hour. I am potty-trained and housebroken. I can sleep 9-10 hours at night in my crate so you will still get a good night’s rest with me around. I did start protecting my old home and family as I got bigger. The usual stuff like barking at people and dogs walking by, but my family always called me and redirected my focus when I barked. Once I get to know you, I am yours, loyal to the end. I am still very young, developing and changing a lot. If you think you have the time and energy to guide me and be a strong leader so I can become a great adult dog, I will be loyal to you forever. Princess

Princess Princess was surrendered to a shelter because they had no time for her. She is 4 years old and just a happy girl. She is an English Bulldog/Boxer mix. She knows her basic commands such as sit, stay and give paw. She is really sweet and super friendly. She wiggles from head to toe. She is a solid little girl at 47 pounds. She is crate trained and appears to be housebroken. Princess cannot live with dogs or cats. She would be fine with children but might be a bit jumpy for small ones. She is such a fun girl and she is waiting patiently for a new family to come along. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Alexis Alexis cme to us with a belly full of puppies. She was too young to be having pups but someone did not bother to spay her. She is only about a year old. Morgan

Morgan Morgan is an adorable little guy. Appears to be a Cairn Terrier mix, maybe with Jack Russell or Dachshund or both. He is only about a year old and 12 pounds. Morgan has a great temperament and is wonderful with the other dogs and good with the cats. His favorite pastime is being on "varmint patrol" in the back yard. He will sit patiently and wait for the squirrels to appear and once they do, he is totally focused on making them disappear. Because of this, he really needs a fenced yard. He has a lot of energy and would not do well on a tie out. Inside, he spends most of his time playing with the resident kitten or any dog willing to play. They spend hours chasing each other and wrestling. He loves to cuddle on the couch, but he can be snappy. Family's with older(over 10) children only. He is crate trained, but has not had any accidents while loose in the house, and has been left loose for up to 3 hours without and problems. He is quiet inside, but can become a little vocal outside while attempting to rid the yard of those pesky squirrels. Morgan is just an all 'round happy and fun little guy. Ty Look at that face!!!!Ty is a 10 month old purebred American Bulldog. He was surrendered to the shelter with no reason listed. Ty is your typical, not so bright, but happy Bulldog. Doesn't seem to have any issues with other dogs but he has not been mingled yet. He is crate trained and a very quiet boy overall. He is 85 pounds now but could gain about 10. Due to his size he needs a home without small children. We will add more information once we get to know him better. For Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Jake

Jake Jake is an adorable 6 month old Collie/Shepherd mix. It doesn’t appear he will be a very big dog but we can never be sure. He came to us really shy and with no experiences but is doing great now. He LOVES all dogs. If a dog wants to play with him he plays but he is respectful of dogs that don't and never challenges them. He loves people too but when he first meets them he is a bit apprehensive. After a minute he is full of kisses. Everybody that meets him falls in love instantly. He willingly goes in his kennel to eat and sleep and is quiet in there. He is housebroken but will need to be watched due to his age. He did jump the gate on my stairs to try and chase a cat but he backed right off when the cat stood her ground. Just thought it was something fun to do. He loves the water and played in the baby pool. He also walks great on a leash now. He walks great on leash now but still will need to learn some commands. He is a fast learner and his house manners have greatly improved, all he needed was a teacher. This guy is going to make someone a wonderful companion. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Riley Riley was picked up as a stray and was limping. He is thought to be about 10 months old. He appears to be a Bichon or Bichon mix. We took him to the vet and they determined he has Legg Perthe's Disease. This is where the femoral head degenerates and flattens. He has already had the surgery to remove the femoral head and will soon be ready for a new home. He has a great temperament, happy and loving. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Babe

Babe Hello- My name is Babe--grown up for--Baby. I am 11 years old and I need a new home. I like to be petted and rubbed. I love to walk and snuggle. I am generally very good in the car. Sometimes I talk to the bicyclists and folks along the way. I do enjoy all rides and am very good on long ones. I don't always like to get out of the car and will talk to you about it, but you can convince me. When I came to my family about 6 years ago they had three dogs and a parrot. Now we are living with just one other dog and I would be best as an only dog. Because our family circumstances continue to change, my Mom feels a new home is best for me. I have not had much experience with young children, so need to be in a home with older ones (teenagers) or an adult only home. I follow commands pretty well such as: sit, down, shake, and I walk well on a leash. If you are interested in Babe please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net.
Lucky

Lucky Lucky is an adorable, female, chocolate, Doberman Pinscher mix. She is already spayed, up to date on shots and housebroken. Lucky was surrendered to us at Friends of the Animals shelter last year with her litter of 3 day old puppies. Her previous owners loved her very much and tried to care for her as best as they could but were just not very informed about what type of care a dog actually requires. They had no idea Lucky was even pregnant until she delivered her seven puppies. All of her puppies have been adopted into loving homes already, now it’s Lucky’s turn to find a better home than the one she had before. Lucky would do best in a home with older children and no cats. She gets along well with some of the male dogs at our shelter but doesn’t get along with adult female dogs. Lucky needs to be in a home with an owner who can provide good leadership to her and let her know she is not the alpha dog. She listens to commands well but needs to be given clear directions in a firm tone or she will become “pushy” and choose not to listen. She will walk on a leash well if reminded to stay at a heel and given a correction if needed. She knows how to sit and lay down and is a fast learner. She doesn’t display destructive behaviors like chewing her bed and really appreciates having a soft fluffy blanket to sleep on. Lucky is extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle, gives you dozens of kisses and does the “Dobbie-lean” thing. She also really enjoys going for rides in the car. If you’d like more information about Lucky please email Friends of the Animals at friendsoa@yahoo.com or call us at (563) 886-2361. You can also visit us online at www.foa.thinkhost.com .

Rambo This is Rambo...Bo for short. He was pulled from a shelter in Arkansas and has blossomed since his arrival to his foster home.
Bo is housebroken and lives with several Rottweilers and 2 cats. He gets along great with all of them. In fact he has no issues with anyone or anything. When Bo gets scared or unsure, he runs to his human and grabs onto them with his front paws as if to say "Save me" . He is happy running alongside you, playing with the other animals, enjoying his toys, or sitting on the couch with the kids and watching TV. Bo is probably going to be around 60 pounds when full grown, so will be the perfect size for your home. Wouldn't you love for Bo to become a member of your family? Rosa

Rosa Hello all,
I am contacting you on behalf of Rosa, a Doberman mix who is in desperate need of rescue. She is a 5.5 year old spayed female, adopted from our shelter about 4 years ago and returned in November because she did not like the new dachshund her owners had recently adopted. Rosa is a wonderful dog who only wants loving people she can call her own. She is currently battling chronic ear infections and needs more attention then we are able to offer at the shelter. We have no open foster homes and Rosa is living in a large vari-kennel in our staff office, as we have 11 dog kennels and 31 dogs. Rosa does like some other dogs but will growl when she has had enough. She has never bitten to hurt, and is better with large dogs her own
